Joanne’s approach to facilitating adult learning is experiential and problem-based, so that learning is always practical. To enhance the learning experience, she likes to draw from a variety of media. Story-telling, writing and art are often used, incorporating material based on archetypes, myths, fairy tales and the heroic journey. Joanne also likes to make sure that learning is fun!
Joanne has spent equal time in industry and in higher education as a Counsellor, Consultant, Educator, Facilitator, and Trainer, always with a focus on Personal, Professional and Career Development. As Human Resources Advisor with Imperial Oil Limited, she participated in the coordination of Management Development programs and assisted management and professional employees with mid-career transitions. Her work in Co-operative Education and Career Services with the University of Waterloo assisted hundreds of university students to launch their careers; and it has kept her in regular contact with employers in industries, organizations and agencies across all sectors, public and private, nationally, and internationally. In her private practice, clients benefit from Joanne’s extensive knowledge of the employment market in a wide variety of fields, and from her considerable experience and understanding of the recruitment, selection, and human resources development processes.
As a volunteer, Joanne has worked with Lifeline Australia, as a crisis telephone counsellor, and has assisted “at-risk” youth through such organizations as Plan-It Youth and GirlSavvy. She is an accomplished speaker, having achieved the Toastmasters Advanced – Bronze level.
